Anyone who lives in or near NYC knows that up until a couple of days ago we’ve been suffering through an unseasonally cold winter so far, including last Thursday with a snowstorm dubbed a “bomb cyclone.” This may have been at least what partially inspired me to paint a portrait of vintage-loving model and blogger Jasmin of Vintage Vandalizm.
With flowers in her hair and on her dress (by The Pretty Dress Co.) I can at least pretend it’s spring while looking at her. The portrait is inspired by a photo shoot by Daniel Rodriguez. If you get a chance, check out his work, consistently sexy with a retro feel.
This piece was different for me in that for the most part I stayed pretty literal and true to the original images, no extra, whimsical embellishments. Somehow in this case it seemed unnecessary. I was drawn to Jasmin’s look because of the lack of grit or irony present in so many fashion blog posts. There’s something that felt almost defiant about a pretty girl in a pretty dress and nothing more.
