Be Free, Butterflies (Portrait of Rose McGowan)
Usually I paint butterflies because I like how they look, how beautiful and how fragile. Something we enjoy looking at but really ought to leave alone. But in this case, I saw them as being symbolic of all the victims of sexual harassment and assault who are finally being freed from their silence in no small part due to Rose McGowan. Often I am asked why I illustrate certain things or people. In this case, it was because I couldn’t not do it.
I also have other new illustrations to post but I admit to having been to swamped to do any updating here. You can find more on my Instagram @smollot if you wish.
