I won’t lie. I’ve been pretty obsessed with this last illustration, a portrait I’ve been working on here and there for the past couple of weeks of Dita Von Teese in this butterfly creation. She wore it on the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 2014 couture show. I’ve been working on burlesque-inspired pieces this summer, and while this is not one of Dita’s burlesque stage costumes (that I’m aware of) as soon as I found a photo of the queen of the new burlesque wearing this, I knew I had to turn it into art.
I also had intended to film the progress of this illustration because I love it when other artists and illustrators post progress videos online, especially sped-up videos. It’s so inspiring and educational, but I’m still learning how to do this myself. So I’ll have to wait until the next one.
Meanwhile, I hope everyone is having a good summer. I’ve been trying to make the most of it by working on illustrations I hope will be featured in a fall show, so please pardon the infrequent posts.
