Well, first off I want to explain my absence from this blog for nearly 20 days. I normally try to post more regularly (key word = try, heh), but in this case I was just desperately trying to meet a deadline to create a couple of new pieces for an upcoming show.
The gal pictured above who’s part cage… or part butterflies… or both? Is going to be one of a total of nine illustrations I’ll be showing as part of a group exhibit in Newark, New Jersey. The venue is a spacious pop-up gallery called Art Front Galleries. It had been a vacant storefront and the purpose of this event, along with showcasing works by established and up and coming artists, is to help revitalize the area by activating an otherwise unused space. (Thanks to one of the featured artists and organizers, photographer Timothy Dingman, for inviting me to participate and thanks also go to Suzie for helping me prepare for the show.) I really am hugely excited about the show and the entire concept of art revitalizing neighborhoods. I would also love to see more shows like this in other areas in NJ and NYC.
Art Front Galleries will be open, showcasing works from October 1 through October 31 with the grand opening scheduled for Friday, October 10 from 6-9 p.m.* Twenty percent of the proceeds from art sales will go to the nonprofit La Casa de Don Pedro. The gallery is located at 50 Broadway, Newark, NJ. I’ll be there at the opening and all afternoon on Sunday, October 19 (at least from 2-6 p.m.)* and I would love to see some of you there then or at the opening. To get an idea of some of the other work to be shown (paintings, photography and more), visit the event’s website or Facebook page.
*Updated to include new date/time of opening.
