There have been a number of trends this season that I’ve simply turned my nose up at (empire waist maxi dresses, which resemble maternity dresses, for one, and neon colored anything for another). But there’s another strictly warm-weather style I find both adorable and sexy at the same time, and that would be dresses with cutouts on the back. It’s a fun, chic alternative to low cut backs, which, while very elegant, aren’t exactly bra friendly, and can be a bit much for a daytime look.

The illustration you see here is based on a quickie photo of a stylish looking thing I snapped on my iPhone as I crossed the street the other day. When he saw it, my husband commented that this girl could have been me from the back ― and he’s right. That’s my hair and body, though I have no idea what she looked like from the front. I was too busy ogling her outfit!

Anyway in other news, I’m still in the running for the Modcloth Make the Cut Contest. If I win, they’ll actually make and sell a dress I designed. It’s between me and 29 other designers and you can vote here (which I would be most thankful for.) If you don’t have Facebook, which is how the voting is done, you can see the design in a previous My Style Canvas blog post here.

In other, other news, in my last post I announced a giveaway for a custom portrait of the winner. To enter, just like this page via Bloglovin’ or Facebook or both. See my last post for details.
