Even being an avid blog reader, there are few things I look forward to more than getting issues of my favorite magazines in the mail. (What can I say, I’m a print junkie. Probably why I’m still a print journo by day.) What I also look forward to, almost as much, is getting my catalogues for Urban Outfitters and Free People. I can’t help but perk up when I see them in the mailbox, even when they’re hidden behind bills. They’re almost like mini-magazines with their pretty spreads of rock and roll looking models wandering through grassy fields, guitar in hand. All while dressed for the stage they’ll surely be on later. I’ve especially been feeling the gypsy vibe FP has been going for with all the filmy layers on long dresses as well as the chunky moon pendants and rings they’re hawking this season.
Along with making me want to shop I find that the pictures in this catalogue inspire me further, making me want to live the most creative life possible.
So without further ado, here’s my latest illustration, inspired by the cover of the latest Free People catalogue, as well as a few photos I snapped from the catalogue so you too can share in my obsession. (Click to enlarge.)
One last thing: If you didn’t see my last post, I’m holding my first giveaway to celebrate a whole year online. The prize: A custom illustration of YOU. All you have to do to enter is follow me on Google Reader. Following me on Bloglovin counts as an extra entry as does recommending the giveaway on another blog. (As long as you think the blog publisher is actually interested–I don’t want anyone to feel spammed. Just leave me a comment with the link.) For more info, see my original giveaway post.
I agree that when I get a couple magazines that have these models in open air and flowy I dream of being artsy somewhere all decked out in artsy clothing….ah, dreams! Great illustration!
cheers, dana

Free people always have such nice catalogues. Huge source of inspiration.

esp knowing you love UO…what can I say?
I'm alright, thanks for asking…just got tired of that girl pretending so attached to me virtually but then all of my friends were saying she was faking it…=)can't waste my time on toxic influences esp with the mag going=)

nice use of colors!
the first illustration reminds me of Sheryl Crow 🙂 it's probably the guitar 🙂
Awesome illustration! I rarely read magazines – I spend too much money on comic books instead. ;D
Amazing work on the gown! Love the shadowwork and touches of color. Great capture!
